Lockengelöt: upcycling design home accessories for real use
Recycling of everyday objects to completely new interior accessories, that’s the premise of the German label Lockenglöt. This brand was founded in 2004 by three young Hamburg designers who operate from their workshop in the heart of the old district of St. Pauli.
From the start, the designers focused on alienating the ancient purpose of their basic materials and create new functional consumer products. This may sound complicated. But when you see the products of Löckengelot, you will understand immediately what we mean:
● oil barrels that have been transformed into cabinets, coffee tables and clocks
● vinyl LPs that have been transformed into bowls, picture frames, lamps and clocks
● key racks and coat hooks of old books
● bottle openers and corkscrews of the puppets of table football games
Lockengelöt performs 'upcycling' – use waste material to create a more sophisticated new product - at a high level. Of seemingly worthless materials they create artistic objects, while the shape and function of the previous life remains recognizable. They are modern designs with clean lines and a clear function. Moreover, the designers pay close attention to the careful, manual finishing.
Simply put, the Löckengelot articles look very nice, but they are meant to actually be used. And that's where this Hamburgers on focus since 2004. With the main condition that the result convinces. And it does.
