Beautiful keyring of tagua, or vegetable ivory
These beautiful, colourful key rings all have their organic shape. The average size is 4 cm high at 3 cm diameter. Equipped with a sturdy cotton wax cord and metal sliding ring. Fairly produced in Colombia.
Tagua is ideal for people with sensitive skin, because it is of natural origin and therefore also nickel free. And do not forget: because tagua is a vegetable material, vegans can also enjoy this beautiful colorful jewelry. In addition, this jewelry needs no maintenance. However, it is important not to expose it to water or sunlight for a long time.
Why is tagua also called vegetable ivory?
Tagua is the fruit of the tagua palm tree, which grows in the tropical regions of South America. The ripe seeds or nuts are dried in the sun for up to 2 years, making them hard. In terms of composition, tagua looks exactly like animal ivory. That is why tagua is also called vegetable ivory. Moreover, tagua is also a good alternative to animal ivory.
A tagua palm produces in one year as much ivory as an average female African elephant. The dried tagua nut is very easy to work with and can be cut and cut in different shapes. This material is also excellent to paint in a large number of natural colors. Thanks to the dyeing, the veined structure of the vegetable ivory becomes even more visible. This gives each jewel a unique natural look.
